Denton Bach Messiah Solo Auditions Info
Denton Bach Society is proud to announce auditions for undergraduate singers to serve as soloists for their performance of Handel’s Messiah in December 2026! We are performing Part One of Messiah with a professional Baroque orchestra. This is a rare opportunity to sing with period instruments that would be a wonderful launching point for your career!
Audition Date: Saturday October 31st from 1:00-5:00pm in the UNT Choir Room
Audition Forms Due: Friday October 23rd
Performance Date: Sunday December 13th at 4:00pm
Who can audition?
Our goal is to celebrate the wonderful undergraduate music making happening at our local universities, and to give those students a chance to shine on a stage outside of their school. Therefore, this audition is only open to undergraduate students at UNT or TWU.
What do I sing?
You may prepare any of the solos for your voice part from Part One of Messiah. See the form for a complete list of options. The audition will be sung at 415 (down a half step), since the performance is with period orchestra.
Is there any payment available for soloists?
No, but the experience of singing with a professional orchestra is highly valuable!
How will the solos be assigned?
It depends on who ends up auditioning! It could be that there is one singer selected for each voice part, and they sing all the solos for the whole performance. It could also be that we hear so many fantastic voices that we feature a whole bunch of singers! For example, maybe one bass sings “Thus saith the Lord,” another sings “For behold,” and a third sings “The people that walked in darkness.” Prepare the solo that fits your voice the best and allows you to showcase the best parts of your instrument.
How do I sign up?
Complete the audition form by Friday October 23.
