Denton Bach Society: A Legacy of Choral Excellence

Our Mission and Community

Founded in 1976 by a distinguished group of music professors, the Denton Bach Society has grown into one of North Texas’s most highly regarded ensembles. Our mission is to provide dedicated and musically-trained singers the opportunity to bring high-quality choral and instrumental music—especially from the Baroque period—to audiences in the Denton and greater North Texas community. Serving the region for nearly five decades, we are committed to enriching the local cultural landscape. We are profoundly grateful to the community, local grantmaking organizations, and generous businesses that have supported us, especially through the challenges of the pandemic. As a diverse group of volunteer and amateur musicians, we are always accepting new singers and are dedicated to bringing a welcoming community together through the shared joy of exceptional performance.

Community Collaboration and Performance

Led by Music Director Matt Carlson, the Denton Bach Society consistently delivers captivating and polished performances, celebrated for a rich vocal blend and an unwavering commitment to musical excellence. As an ensemble deeply rooted in our local area, our home base for both rehearsals and performances is the First Presbyterian Church on University Drive. We also enjoy sharing our music throughout Denton, with recent performances at the Campus Theatre and the tree lighting on the square. We deeply value our collaborative spirit and the strength found in our local partnerships, occasionally joining forces with other local choirs for shared events, such as a memorable Christmas program at the Good Samaritan Denton Village retirement community.

A Dynamic Repertoire and Educational Outreach

While our foundation rests firmly on the timeless masterworks of J.S. Bach and the broader Baroque tradition, the Society’s programming is dynamic and expansive. We frequently explore a broad range of choral literature, from sweeping classical oratorios to engaging contemporary works. Beyond our own performances, we are incredibly proud to host an annual competition for young musicians, fostering and celebrating the next generation of musical talent in North Texas.
